The use of a wooden base under stainless steel coils serves multiple purposes, including facilitating handling, protecting the coil, and preventing it from sliding. All of these reasons are valid. However, today’s focus is particularly on the protective function of the wooden base.
A well-designed wooden base should not cause any damage to the coil; in fact, it helps safeguard the underside of the coil, especially for thinner coils. Stainless steel coils can weigh anywhere from several hundred kilograms to 20-22 tons per coil. It is generally not recommended to remove the wooden base because, without it, any irregularities on the ground—such as stones or debris—could cause dents or scratches on the coil.
This issue often arises in storage yards or situations where little attention is paid to the surface beneath the coil. Today’s topic aims to highlight the importance of the wooden base in avoiding these potential issues.
