Stainless steel futures traded within a volatile range today, while spot prices remained broadly stable. Tsingshan reopened its order book, with agents reporting relatively healthy order intake.

Supply disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have pushed sulfur prices higher, while nickel prices are showing signs of recovery from relatively low valuations. These factors have provided renewed cost support and driven a moderate rebound in stainless steel prices.

However, seasonal demand remains cautious, and transactions have yet to fully follow the recent price increase. In the short term, the market is expected to remain volatile as stronger production costs compete with subdued downstream demand.

For 316L, another increase in ferro-molybdenum prices continues to strengthen the cost floor. Although market supply remains sufficient and some traders are offering limited concessions, further downside may be constrained by elevated raw-material costs.

Market Outlook: Stainless steel prices are likely to fluctuate within a broad range, while 316L is expected to remain comparatively stable in the near term.

For buyers with confirmed requirements, monitoring raw-material movements and securing workable levels may be more practical than waiting for a clear market direction.
